H. Truman Chafin, one of the most trusted and experienced political leaders in West Virginia, was first elected to the State Senate in 1982. A Marshall University graduate, Chafin received his law degree from Michigan State University and served as a judge in Williamson where he was past president of the Mingo County Bar Association and the Mingo County Commission. Chafin was also elected to the West Virginia State Democratic Executive Committee and served as a delegate to the 1996 and 2000 Democratic National Conventions.

Truman Chafin is the only state senator to serve on both the Senate Finance Committee and the Senate Judiciary Committee and served as Vice Chairman of the Senate Rules Committee. He served as the Majority Leader for the 69th, 70th, 72nd, 73rd, 74th, 75th, 76th, 77th, 78th, and 79th Legislatures. Currently, Chafin serves as a member of the West Virginia Bar Association and the Mingo County Bar Association, Pi Kappa Alpha, LOOM, BPOE, Shriners, and is a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. Chafin is also a charter member of the Governor’s Judicial Advisory Committee.

Truman Chafin is married to Letitia Neese Chafin and is the proud father of his three daughters, Elizabeth, Carah, and Carly.
